From October 2009 the first aid industry in the UK is changing. The future of first aid training for the majority of businesses is 1-day Emergency First Aid courses. Our Trainers Induction course is developed so you can deliver this new course. If you wish to become a First Aid trainer and offer HSE approved qualifcations through our awarding body and also first Aid qualifications that are on the National Qualifications Framework then this course is suitable to get you started. Potential for work as a trainer through a national network of training companies or for you to set up your own training business in a growing market.

Become a First Aid Trainer

Training 4 Life is working closely with ITC First Aid Ltd to run training courses for those wishing to become first aid trainers or those who train with other organisations and want to work with the ITC First Aid Awarding Body.

ITC is a registered first aid training provider by HSE (HSE Approval No 1670/96) and holds Awarding Body status accredited by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority. ITC is one of only a select few first aid training providers to hold ‘Awarding Body’ status.

We provide an innovative First Aid Trainers course highlighting the ethos of the organisation as well as developing training methods, resource use and access to latest guidelines. We will support you so that you become a Trainer quickly. In addition to this you will benefit from the security, back up and credibility that comes from belonging to an established organisation.

What are the prerequisites needed to attend a First Aid Trainers course?

The path to becoming a Trainer is open to all, whatever your experience. Individuals with training and or medical experience will obviously have prior experience that may enhance their development. There are 4 simple criteria that you have to meet in order to gain status as a provider;

  1. Attend a 2-day Trainer Induction course
    Once you have successfully completed our Trainer Induction course you will receive your own comprehensive Trainers Pack and Logbook containing a CD of course images, teaching notes and a DVD of how to deliver the key course components
  2. Hold a current First Aid at Work certificate
  3. Be seen teaching and assessing 100% of an Emergency First Aid course
    This is to ensure new trainers can train and assess to the required national standard. There are a number of mechanisms to achieve this.
  4. Hold a current teacher training qualification (By September 2010)

Once I have been on a First Aid Trainers course what happens next?

Once you have successfully completed our Trainers course you will receive your own comprehensive Trainers Pack and Logbook containing a CD of course images, teaching notes etc. We will mentor you to give you feedback and support throughout your development. There will be real opportunities on courses that are already running so that you can develop at your own pace. You will receive regular newsletters throughout the year and we offer regular development days for the Trainer to extend their range of courses to say paediatric, AED, expedition, motorist etc. We have all the resources for the new Trainer to deliver courses and will loan or hire any equipment that you require.

How much will the First Aid trainers course cost?

The intial Trainer Induction course costs £490 exc VAT. Depending on the assessment route you choose, the assessment can either be free or up to £250 exc VAT. After successful completion the training process support and advice, is FREE to the ITC Trainer. The course administration, office support and certification is extremely efficient. ITC has a national brand and all your courses will be marketed on their website to help you gain more participants. However ITC charge a candidate fee of £12.50 per student when you are delivering courses. This covers the costs of a manual and certificate for every participant. Prices quoted excluding VAT.

What income can I expect to make from First Aid Training?

For individuals attending an open course current Providers charge between £50-205 per person depending on the course. With up to 12 participants allowed on each course that's an income of about £2000 per course (For a first aid at Work course).
There are of course additional costs; insurance, purchasing equipment, travel and venue hire. However even using conservative estimates by the time you run your fourth course you should be making a profit!! There are also sub-contracting & employment opportunities with daily rates between £150 & £185 per day.
